The Winery and Its History
How long has Dogliotti1870 been around?
Our story begins in 1870 in Castiglione Tinella, with brothers Giuseppe and Marcello Dogliotti. Today, in Castagnole delle Lanze, the winery is run by two generations of the family together: Giorgio and Bruno, the fourth, with Erik, Ivan and Matteo, the fifth.
Where is the winery located?
We're in Castagnole delle Lanze, in the province of Asti, exactly where the hills of the Langhe meet those of Monferrato — two UNESCO World Heritage sites for their vineyard landscapes. You'll find the address and map on our Contact page.
What wines do you produce?
We produce the great reds of the Langhe and Monferrato — Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d'Asti and Nizza among others — alongside whites, Metodo Classico sparkling wines, our Moscato d'Asti and a Vermouth made to the family recipe. See the full list on our Products page.
What does the "1870" in the name mean?
It's the year brothers Giuseppe and Marcello Dogliotti started our business in Castiglione Tinella: a family story that continues to this day.
Getting Here and Opening Hours
How do I get to the winery?
We're in Castagnole delle Lanze, easy to reach by car from Asti, Alba and Nizza Monferrato via the provincial roads of the Langhe. You'll find the exact address and map on our Contact page: just set it on your navigator and in a few minutes you're among the vineyards.
What are your opening hours?
Hours change depending on the time of year, which is why we keep them updated on our Contact page rather than fixing them here once and for all. Take a look there before you come, so you're sure to find us open.
Visits and Tastings
How does a cellar visit work?
It starts with a walk through the historic cellar and the barrels where our wines rest, told by one of the Dogliottis or by someone who works alongside us every day. It ends with a guided tasting, often paired with local cured meats and cheeses.
How long does a tasting last?
Usually between 60 and 90 minutes, between the story of the cellar and the guided tasting. Time tends to stretch if the conversation runs long.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes: use the calendar on our Visits page, so we can welcome you with everything ready. Last-minute requests are still welcome — just write to us and we'll see what we can do.
How many people can I bring?
As many as you like: there's no minimum and no real maximum. Our table comfortably seats 32, so the more the merrier — for very large groups, just give us a heads-up in advance so we can prepare properly.
Are visits suitable for children?
Yes, families are welcome. There's a small play area for children, so they stay entertained while parents enjoy the tasting at their own pace. We're also happy to prepare a non-alcoholic alternative for the little ones.
Can I bring my dog to a tasting?
The Dogliotti winery, between the Langhe and Monferrato, is happy to welcome four-legged friends too: they can join the visit in outdoor and common areas, always on a leash. For tastings inside our rooms, just give us a heads-up in advance so we can arrange everything properly.
Is it just wine during the tasting?
No — during the tasting we serve a selection of carefully sourced local specialities: cured meats, cheeses and grissini breadsticks, chosen to go perfectly with each glass.
How much does a tasting cost?
Price depends on the tasting path you choose and the wines involved. You'll find the available options and their cost directly in the booking calendar, or write to us for a tailored suggestion.
Is there parking near the winery?
Yes, there's ample parking in the winery's own courtyard: you can leave your car without worry, even if you arrive with a group minivan.
What languages can the visit be conducted in?
Italian and English are always available. For French or German, just let us know a little in advance when you book, so we can arrange the right guide.
Can I take photos during the visit?
Of course — photograph the cellar, the barrels and the vineyards as much as you like: we're proud of them, and it's nice for them to live on in your own memories too. Just avoid flash near our oldest bottles.
Is there a smoking area?
Yes, there's a dedicated outdoor space for smokers. It's not allowed inside the cellar, out of respect for the wines resting there.
Can you accommodate gluten intolerance?
Yes, just let us know when you book and we'll prepare a gluten-free pairing for the tasting.
Do you have vegetarian or vegan options?
Yes, just let us know in advance and we'll happily adapt the food pairing to your needs.
Events and Partnerships
Can I rent the winery for a private event?
Yes, the winery's historic hall can host private events: company dinners, birthdays, small ceremonies, or any occasion that deserves an unusual setting. Write to us with what you have in mind and we'll check availability together.
Do you work with tour operators to organise the visit?
Yes, we partner with Sentieri Gastronomici for guests who prefer to book through a tour operator specialised in the Langhe and Monferrato. If you're travelling with an organised group, ask them or write to us directly.
Are you partners with any venues nearby?
Yes, in Asti we're partners with Alfredo, where you can find our wines paired with their cuisine — a good way to get to know us even outside the winery, before or after a visit.
Staying Overnight
Can I stay overnight at the winery after a visit?
Not yet, but we're working on it: some rooms at the winery are being renovated for guests who want to stay overnight among the vineyards after a visit. Find all the details on our Visits & Stays page.
When will the rooms be ready?
We don't have an exact date yet: photos and information will appear on the site as soon as the work is finished. In the meantime, feel free to write to us to stay updated.
Buying and Shipping
Can I buy wine directly at the winery?
Yes, the simplest way is to buy bottles in person, at the end of your visit.
Do you ship outside Italy?
Shipping isn't a standard service, but in some cases we can arrange it on request: write to the email or phone number on our Contact page and we'll see whether it's possible for your order.
